Correct posture and healthy body language are things that seem to diminish as we get older. Perhaps from a combination of psychological angst and “natural” physical aging we feel maybe a little less comfortable in our bodies than we use to as kids. To gain great posture and positive and attractive body language a little bit of conscious practice goes a long way.

Key factors to remember in creating a positive aura around yourself in regards to attractive body language are as follows:

Eye Contact - Always remember to establish eye contact. When talking to someone, or a group of people; Making eye contact when you speak exudes confidence, sincerity and intrigue. People will generally be a lot more attracted to you and interested in what you have to say if you are able to look them in the eye when you speak.

Posture – Shoulders back, chest up. Stand proud. Of course do not over exaggerate an upright posture but feel proud and comfortable within your domain. Think of how a Lion is proud in his powerful and dominant stance especially while on the prowl. An awkward stance, slouched, timid posture is the complete polar opposite of what we would expect from a man who is considered an “Alpha Male” – Think proud, be proud, act proud, STAND proud.

Some pointers: Distribute the weight on your feet evenly when standing instead of leaning on one side. Shifting weight side to side is distracting for the audience and will make you feel more uncomfortable.

Speaking with your hands adds animation to your speech. It makes whatever you have to say more theatrical and interesting and will prevent you from fidgeting,scratching, itching and other nervous tics that occur when people feel under pressure.

Most importantly – Relax! Do not tense up as this is as obvious to your audience as it is to you that you are uncomfortable and nervous. Enjoy speaking to people and always presume whatever you are saying they are highly interested in. Don’t rush, take your time and SMILE!
